UMBC wins the T20 Championship

UMBC wins the 2010 T20 Championship by defeating Mavericks Cricket Club by 8 wickets.
Mavericks won the toss and decided to bat first. Faisel got the breakthrough for UMBC by cleaning up the batsman on the very first ball as he went for an extravagant shot.
Gurnish started off with a short ball which was dispatched for four, but came back strong as he got the second opener on the last over bowled. Austin came first change and bowled tight lines. At the end of 6 overs of powerplay Mavericks were 30 with 2 wickets down.Sam who replaced Faisel struck on his very first ball by cleaning up Saqib for 3. He again struck in the same over when Faisel fielding at long off held on to wonderful catch ball inches away from the boundary to dismiss Fesan who had hit Sam for two boundaries in the same over. None of the Mavericks batsman got going and they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Only one batsman made it to double figures was Ehtisham who top scored scoring 22 who was eventually dismissed by Sam when caught at long on by Anand. Sam finished with career best figures of 5-17 off 3.3 overs. Austin finished with 2 wickets, Faisel with 2 and Gurnish with 1.
UMBC opened their batting with achuth and surya. Surya started off well with some confident drives down the ground and through the covers to get the scoreboard ticking. Surya hogged most of the strike in first few overs and after giving a decent start got out for 11 when he was cleaned up by Sibtain. Achuth after hitting couple of boundaries was next to depart out lbw to Faisel for 9. UMBC lost the first wicket on 15 and next on 38. Anand and Gurnish both remained unbeaten on 12 and 22 respectively. Sibtain was the pick of the bowlers for Mavericks as he bowled 4 overs for 15 runs picking up the wicket of surya. In the end the score was too little for Mavericks to defend as Anand and Gurnish took the team home with over 7 overs to spare.
UMBC reached the finals by defeating Virginia Lions in the semi finals by 5 wickets.
