Hey guys,
I have been thinking a lot of about the match we played against Elite, and I had few points in mind to share. I decided not to post them last week because we all needed to clear up our minds. With that said, here are few points that I think we need to work upon:
Containing runs:
I think a lot of times our bowlers forget that while taking wickets is important, it is very important to slow down the batsmen and try to slow runs per over. Last match, we gave 6 an over. This is very important for bowlers in middle overs. Dhaval, Austin, Sam, and I have to understand that we need to have tight overs in middle. I noticed that we had an extra EVERY OVER. It is not acceptable. If you cannot bowl straight, I might as well give it to someone else to bowl.
Panicking:
Last match, I had few guys panicking, looking confused when things got tight. Guys, when it’s a tough situation, it is very important to back each other up. I understand than more than half of the guys’ last game were not too experienced, but it is even more important to stand by each other, and support your bowler and the team. I hope I don't see this panic behavior in future.
Middle order batting:
Digant and Eraj gave a excellent start. It was a great platform for Sam, myself, Chirag and rest to take advantage of it. We still haven’t found the right line up, especially in the lower middle order, and I will be shuffling the batting order around next match. Every batsman is being given the best chance to contribute, so make the best of it guys
Bowling the right line and length:
The bowlers HAVE to understand what line to bowl to what type of batsmen. We will talk about it during practice this week.
Keeping:
Chirag, your keeping is going downhill every match. I am not sure if it’s the gloves, or something else, but we need you to be at best dude. You are the vice-captain, and it’s very important for you to perform. Last year, you were easily top 3 in the league in terms of keeping. We need that from you in the upcoming weeks, and I am sure you will do well. If you need extra practice, I am available in evenings.
Positives:
- Good batting Eraj and Digant.
- Good bowling by Austin. By far the best bowler of the day I would say. If not for a dropped catch, he would be close to getting 5 wickets.
- Good Fight Taha: Great end overs batting while wickets were falling. You have been very unlucky in bowling bro. Keep bowling the same line and length
Also, please free feel to tell me in private or email on how we can improve as a team, or any aspect you want to talk about (including captaincy). By being honest, we will only help each other, and the overall performance of the team.
Overall, it was one loss, but a loss we could have easily converted to a win. Next 4 weeks are against very good teams, so let’s roll up your sleeves, and make sure 22 yards is at its best!
BEFORE:
Laying the mat down: Eraj, AP, Rikin, Taha, Chirag, Gurnish.
Inner Cones: Naga
Outer Cones: Dhaval
AFTER:
Picking up the mat: Austin, Sam, Eraj, Naga, Dhaval, Digant
Inner cones: Ap
Outer cones: Taha
Packing up the kits: Rikin, Gurnish, Chirag
Meet at Digant's place around 10.15AM and reach ground by 11AM. We are the home team so we have to set up the ground by 11 45. Also Naga will be driving this time!
Excellent inning rikin the best part was you didnt play a single loose short and no chances were given to fielder.
Great spell from gurnish and a very good support by Taha. They were the only two bowlers today who were thinking and bowling. Austin should learn from it.
Special thanks to chirag for the over. Relax dude it was just one over LOL
