I have announced before usual time because Majority of the people on this list will be coming to practice today, and I want you guys to work on your game.
A lot of the regular guys are not available this week, and It's a very good chance for many of you guys to seal the spot in playing 11.
Naga and Taha will be driving. Meet at Digant's place at 10:15 am to collect kits.
Dhaval, Naga, and Sanatan are in charge of the kits this week.
Ps: A special thanks to Faisel bhai for giving up this week in order to umpire this weekend's match. In return, Faisel will be given a free vip pass to any club he prefers ;) lol
lol I hate you......
I am gonna make sure that WCL never wants me to umpire again...
there will be a record 10 LBWs per side this sunday.....hahahhaa...
p.s: I hate you.
P.P.S: Chintan=Nana Patekar+Sunny Deol=Angry Young Man.
hahaha thats it. I am creating my own version of 22 yards. We will be called "22 Hip Replacements". I am sure some 60 year olds wanna play. This way, I will get to open the bowling and batting....hahahaha
UMBC lost the toss and was put on to bat on a rainy day. Digant and Gautam started cautiously on the wet wicket, as they were 18 for 0 in 8 overs. However, Digant tried to take the initiative, but soon, was caught in the 9th over. Just following that, Gautam got caught behind the wicket and suddenly, UMBC was at 21 for 2 after 9 overs. Sam and Chirag stabilized the innings, as they kept rotating strike, and an occasional boundary by Sam helped. After 20 overs, UMBC was 62 for 2. Since there were 20 overs left with 8 wickets in hand, Sam tried to take it to the bowlers by hitting boundaries, while Chirag kept doing his job by rotating strike. However, in the 24th over, Chirag got run out due to miscommunication. Soon after, Gurnish went in, and played a very stupid shot at long on to get out at 8. UMBC was 116 for 4 after 27 overs. Sam was playing his usual aggressive style, but to his bad luck, Sanatan, the next man in, got out after two overs as he got lbw to a very easy full toss ball. Suddenly, UMBC was really relying on Sam to play a big knock, but he needed a partnership. However, Taha knew he needed to be a supporting partner for Sam, and that is what exactly he did. Sam kept attacking, and hit some HUGE sixes to keep the run flow going for 22 yards, while Taha was efficiently taking singles and making sure SAM got maximum strike. After 36 overs, thanks to the support of Taha and some of the big sixes by Sam, UMBC were 172 for 5 after 35 overs. However, Taha got a unlucky lbw, and he departed at the 36th over. Surya walked in with the expectation of giving strike to Sam, and also trying to play a aggressive game. That is what he did exactly. However, Sam got on a “pollard” mode, and was hitting some of the biggest sixes towards the end to bring up his unbeaten 116 knock. With help from Surya’s boundaries and Sam’s hitting, UMBC scored 220 after 40 overs.
Writing 2nd part of summary really makes me think if we are really a young team in wcl. Sanatan started the bowling, and to no one’s surprise, a catch was popped up in the air. However, it seems as if UMBC have some problems with catching, as the catch was dropped by Dhaval. Next over, Taha bowled a beautiful good length delivery to give a simple catch to Surya, which was AGAIN dropped. One of the openers (and comedian) Manish was not even trying to take easy doubles, but was living out of dropped catches. Ashwin, the other batsmen, was again dropped in 4th over as a easy catch popped, which Chirag and Dhaval looked at each other;. Finally, Taha decided to bowl a slower one to take Ashwin’s wicket. After that, the batsmen Jeetu walked in, and after 2 runs, another easy catch was dropped by Dhaval. It was embarrassing to see how we were dropping easy catches. Gurnish came in to bowl, and his catch was dropped 2nd bowl by Chintan. Dhaval was given a chance to bowl early in the 10th over. After struggly first few overs, Dhaval finally got his bowling right in his 3rd over to take a wicket. A catch was finally taken at slip, and everyone was overjoyed by that. Soon after, Dhaval was on a roll, and took the next batsmen by doing caught and bowled. Naga was given the bowl, and after getting couple of catches dropped of his bowling (I am tired of saying the names), he finally managed to bowl Sunil on 0. The wickets kept falling, but other batsmen Jeetu (who we dropped about 3 catches) was playing well. With 10 overs 70 needed, match was really hanging in balance. Sam and Gurnish decided to came on to bowl, and the next 5 overs just project 10 runs with Sam taking 2 wickets. Soon, the score was too much for them to handle. Finally, the Urbana wa-s all out for 182
Positives:
Sam’s all around performance: Even though Sam did not have full fitness, he kept taking singles, and did not rely completely on sixes. He was flawless with his hitting, and bowled a crucial spell at the end. Very special performance from him!
Chirag’s batting: It’s very satisfying to see Vani’s countless hours of Gym workout paying off. He is not only pushing the ball good, but also keeping the ball down and picking gaps to take easy singles. He can be a great asset like he showed in last couple of games if he can continue his form, which helps the lower middle order to play more freely
Dhaval and Naga act: I know both of them have been desperately waiting to get in the side and play for umbc, and their hunger really showed on the field. Dhaval bowled really well to show why he has the potential to be one of the top bowlers in division 2. He kept changing things around to confuse batsmen, and he has really grown since Florida trip as a bowler. Good going buddy. Even though Naga struggled a bit initially, he really kept things simple and kept bowling straight to the batsmen. He took 2 crucial wickets, and had a good spell of 5 overs. Your best is yet to arrive.
Fighting spirit of lower order: It was great to see Taha and Surya really help Sam when Sanatan and myself got out. Things were very dicey, but they really helped give confidence that they can bat at any position, and having that flexibility really helps top order play with more confidence.
Sanatan’s bowling: Sanatan is slowly but surely doing a great job in sealing the opening bowling spot. He does not have the pace, but his swing is really proving lethal and troubling the batsmen. Next few weeks will be a major test for you. I know you will do great!
Negatives:
Fielding: HORRIBLE FIELDING!! We dropped 12 catches if not more, and 80% of them were very easy ones. I heard people on the field complaining how it was wet ball. The other team had the same conditions, and they probably not dropped more than 3 or 4 at most. If we have to be serious title contenders, we have to improve our fielding standards. List of players who dropped the catches: Chirag (2), Chintan(3), Dhaval(3), Digant(1), Taha(1), Naga(1), Surya(1). This is not to to embarrass you guys or anything, but it is to show that if more than half of our team is dropping catches, we are in serious trouble. Let’s make sure we don’t repeat this mistake guys!!
Start: This is not really a negative, but such a advice: Gautam, while I understand it was your first match as an opener, but I felt you played too slow in the beginning. The pressure got to Digant, and he tried to attack unnecessary balls. I do not have any complaint, but try to rotate strike and make use of easy singles. I am sure you will learn as more matches go, but that is a point you should work on.
Stupid shots: Sanatan and I are to blame for this. I should have been mature batsmen and should have rotated strike when Sam was doing well. I saw a easy ball and had a ‘sardar’ moment of going for it. Sanatan was also looking good, but he should have tried to play the full toss straight or hit hard. Instead you were trying to do ‘cute’ stuff by trying to play down fine leg. It was a very good opportunity for you to settle in as batsmen.
Overall, I am very happy how bowlers performed despite dropped dozen catches. We are lucky to have more than 6 to 7 bowlers in our squad that can win us matches any day. Our batting is still relying on one man-show, and we need more than one batsman to click in the match. Good job guys. We are 3-0, and I am sure the teams around the league will be gunning for us now. Let’s show what UMBC is made of, and stay undefeated!!!
wow man..u not only play like dhoni (hate to say that :P)..but also remind me of dhoni during match presentation..good job being straightforward. I hope everyone learn from it and let's win all the matches.
